What is NIST?
NIST stands for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a scientific institution under the U.S. federal government. NIST strives for standardization in science, including defining units. Founded in 1901 as the National Bureau of Standards (NBS).

The black button, in the middle of the front of the device, is a multifunction button. This button turns the device on if you hold it down for a few seconds, scrolls through the display menu on the OLED display, and turns the device off if you hold it down again for a few seconds after this. The OLED display can display measured values (and desired units if applicable), battery charge status, BAPI part number, log message, firmware version, product ID, etc. Each instrument also has a belt clip on one side, a magnetic side panel on the other and a D-ring clip on the bottom of the instrument. It is also possible to hang an instrument from the hanging clip that comes with the instrument(s). This convenient attachment allows you to hang the instrument in a place where a measurement, without human assistance, would otherwise be impossible. You can leave the instrument hanging to get a lot of valuable measurements in one specific spot in a room/building over time.
